Following the military attack carried out by the United States on Venezuela, reports of protests against the U.S. have been emerging from various countries around the world. In the same context, a demonstration in support of Venezuela was also held in Kathmandu.
Organized by the United Student
Organization, protesters gathered in front of the U.S. Embassy in Maharajgunj and strongly opposed American intervention. According to the protesters, demonstrations against the United States have taken place in several Latin American countries including Mexico, Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua, and Argentina; European countries such as Spain, France, and Germany; Middle Eastern countries including Iran and Lebanon; and Asian countries such as India, Pakistan, China, and the Philippines.
Reports indicate that in those countries, students, civil society organizations, and leftist groups have taken to the streets, condemning U.S. military intervention as a violation of international law.
Speaking at the Kathmandu protest, United Student Organization leader Narendra C expressed serious objection to claims that the United States abducted Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife and took them to the U.S., where action was allegedly taken against them on charges of drug trafficking and supporting international terrorism. Protesters described these actions as a blatant interference in the sovereignty of an independent nation.
During the demonstration, participants emphasized that Venezuela’s political problems should be resolved through dialogue and consensus among its political forces, not through external military intervention. Protesters displayed placards and banners while chanting slogans such as “Down with American Imperialism” and “Protect Venezuela’s Sovereignty.”
Although security was tightened around the U.S. Embassy, police reported that the protest concluded peacefully. The United Student Organization stated that the global protests have raised serious questions about the legitimacy of U.S. actions and announced that solidarity programs in support of Venezuela would continue in the coming days.
